Now I am not a religious man, but I do believe in Proverbs 13:20 "Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm." Like many proverbs, this truth has been re-used and translated many times. You may have heard this in the more common fashion of "You are known by the company you keep".
Well well, Ken Whitman, while you have often managed to "glom on" to many successful people in your past, in order to take advantage of their talent, I tend to find it more interesting who you seek out when you need their money.
You know......forming a financial partnership with someone also has a saying attached to it, it is called "getting into bed with someone". Let's see who Ken Whitman has, in the past, decided to get into bed with.....
Thanks to an anonymous tip I discovered that Ken Whitman sought out Ed Kramer to be an investor in his Brother's Barbarian shorts. I realize that "Ed Kramer" might not ring any bells immediately by name, but if I mentioned Dragon Con and a fondness for little boys....
Evidently Ken Whitman had "no idea" about Ed Kramer's past* when he invited the convicted pedophile to the Brother Barbarian set barely months before Mr. Kramer would be arrested for violating parole while working on another small indy production. "No idea?!" Really? How can you know enough about a guy to know he has the money for investing, ties to the RPG industry because of the convention he founded and NOT know about the big thing the man is known for?
Sorry, but I call bullshit.
Ken Whitman has done a lot to scrub his connection to Ed Kramer, but this is the interwebs and while you might be able to re-do the credits for your episodes and alter the IMDB listing, some traces of your work invariably follow you......
This post, made by Ken Whitman on August 21, 2011 clearly lists Ed Kramer as one of the folks responsible for "Still Photography". I find it interesting that neither Ed Kramer or Joshua Lewis get credit on IMDB , and that one other, Peter Bradley, only gets credit on the actual video.....
....hmmmmm.
Evidently Ken Whitman's editor and director, Tim Gooch is a stand-up guy who confronted our local hero when he found out who the "new guy" was (admit it, most of us wouldn't have known Ed Kramer by sight). Tim Gooch also went the extra mile and testified at Ed Kramer's trial.
"Porter called two witnesses during the hearing, both of whom said they had observed Kramer walking unhindered (and with a camera) in 2011.
Krystal Phillips was the makeup artist for the “three-part horror period anthology” that Kramer joined in Milford, Conn. Her hair cut short and bleached blond, big circular earrings matching her blue blouse, Phillips told the court that she watched Kramer stroll through the hilly woods where the movie was being shot.
After a scene where several of the films actors — all but one under 18 — were “slimed,” Phillips said, Kramer tried to help clean them up.
“There just seemed to be something wrong with the situation,” Phillips said.
A second witness, a producer from Louisville, Ky., named Tim Gooch, said Kramer showed up in May 2011 while he and a small team were shooting a “Lord of the Rings” spoof series. Gooch said Kramer “wasn’t gonna run marathons,” but that he saw him walking without oxygen and with minimal help from a cane.
“I saw him do that a couple of times,” Gooch said."
So....if Ken Whitman, a father himself, is willing to allow a convicted pedophile onto his set for money, what won't the man do?
*Ken Whitman's publication, Games Unplugged #1, listed both himself and Ed Kramer as part of the Games Unplugged Lists 50 Top RPG People in 2000. Now this list came out a couple of months before Ed Kramer's arrest, but you cannot expect the Editor/Manager/Writer of an "Entertainment Weekly" style magazine to not know this HUGE story?
Please feel free to send in tips to the email below. If you need to do it anonymously, understand I have to look into it for corroboration. You can also use this excellent resource for sending an anonymous email. Just don't SPAM me with it, ok Ken Whitman?
