We haven't checked in on Kenny in a hot minute, but luckily Tenkar's Tavern had our back and they reported on this new development. Now we clearly think this is a scam, but make your own decision....

.....oh, and the "Unnateral" is from the page's properties that show up in the tab's title......
So....wow, just wow. This is a LOT to unpack.
This movie is getting set to film in about a week. You'd think that at this particular point in the production process that financing should already be secured....I mean they shouldn't have already run short of funds, right?
Well this is a Ken "Whit" Whitman project, and if you roll back through this blog you'll see plenty of other times he's tried dipping back into the funding/scamming well on a film project (KoDT book sales and HackMaster add-ons come immediately to mind). Even if we take this attempt at face value, motivation-wise, let's look at the actual "offer":
$100 for a poster with a potential "share" of the movie's profits. $100 gets you *allegedly* 1% of 10% of the films profits over the next five years. As far as the profits go you spend $100 to get a thousandth of a percent of the profits........ as in 0.001% 0.1% If the film "profits" $100K, you can conceivably get all your money back.
Oh wait.....there's more!
If you toss an extra $100 in the kitty, you'll get an extra "entry" into the pool, along with your poster being autographed. So this 100 share split of the 10% can actually be a 200 share split. This means if you spend (We'd argue lose) $200 you can possibly get .0005% 0.05% (5 ten-thousandths hundredths of a percent!), which means if this happens the movie has to profit $400K for you to get your "investment" back.
Of course this is not an investment, as expressed on the website...even though it's pitched as a potential investment initially.
So we have someone already documented for being a scammer with movies trying to get more money with a movie project by pitching a not-investment investment opportunity.
Oh wait.....there's more!
Even if you pay up there is an undisclosed hoop you'll have to jump through to be eligible for the profits, assuming there is a profit. There is plenty of ways that the money can be manipulated so there isn't a profit. Right off the bat the easiest would be for Little Monsters Entertainment LLC to increase their "costs", subsequently lowering profits.
Not like movie studios don't already do this.....even though it's BS.
10Apr23 Edit: Maths is sometimes hard!
Minor math correction above: 1% of 10% is 0.1%, which is the same as a multiplier of 0.001 (not 0.001% as given), which as is noted is one-thousandth of the profits.
ReplyDeleteSecond minor math correction: Spending an extra $100 would get you an extra one-thousandths of the profits.
ReplyDeleteThat is two one-thousandths of the profits (0.002, which is 0.2%), not five ten-thousandths (0.0005, which is 0.05%, not 0.0005%). At that rate, the movie would have to profit $100,000 for you to get $200 back.
Do note that as stated, if you're the only buyer of that $100 offer, you'd get all shares, and thus, for $100 you'd get 10% of the profits, requiring that the film only profit $1,000 to make your money back. Of course, the producer would never let that happen and would "chip in" money to gain those extra shares for themself. That's the sort of offer that is ripe for abuse if not completely transparent.
ReplyDeletemm.. offer expires on the 12th but as of 30th april, its still open..
